Not here to be liked designs the tools you need to effect change in the world

What we do

We create art and design backed by deep research and years of experience working across activism and the creative industry, for changemakers and cultural institutions.

A campaign only works if it's both well-made and well-aimed, so we treat the thinking and the making as one process. Which is why we can work right across a project from its conception and strategy to how it will be communicated day to day. Additionally we take on specific design projects including content, print, copy writing, art direction, visual identities, websites, installations and print.

Our practice is grounded in the reality of the climate and ecological emergency, nonviolent civil disobedience movements, and a belief that design should serve the people it's trying to reach, not the people making it.

How we work

Whether a project is big or small, we typically try to start any new collaboration – whether it's with a civil resistance campaign or a cultural institution – with a point-of-view workshop. Before we design anything, we sit down with you to clarify what needs to be done, who you need to reach, and what would actually move them to act.

This all feeds into a research phase – looking at the people, places, contexts and history the work has to speak to – and only then do we move into making: concepts, drafts, feedback rounds, and finished work built on all these findings rather than our assumptions.

We occasionally do one-off projects with a quick turnaround and a clear brief.

We also provide ongoing support, strategic advice and workshops to cultural organisations as well as grassroots groups.

Why we exist

We're a design and strategy studio working with movements, NGOs and cultural organisations – people trying to change something in a world that's running out of time to be changed. We came out of the climate movement ourselves, coordinating Extinction Rebellion's art, design and actions in its early years, and we started the studio in 2023 because we'd learned something there: good art and design takes people from knowing to feeling to acting, and the groups who need it most can least afford it.

Who we are

Not here to be liked was founded in 2023 by Moa Pårup, Liam Geary Baulch and Erik Hartin.

-

LIAM GEARY BAULCH is an artist, activist, copywriter and campaign strategist who focuses on creating change through art and activism.

With over thirteen years of creative campaigning experience from healthcare and housing to combating the arms trade and the climate crisis, Liam has combined his activist and artistic praxis to achieve campaign wins like Save Lewisham Hospital and global attention grabbing civil disobedience. As part of the team that launched Extinction Rebellion in 2018, Liam designed strategies for mass protest and impactful messaging from press stunts to social content.

-

MOA PÅRUP is an activist, designer and art director, working with direct action, print design and memes.

With many years of experience designing on identities, books, magazines and exhibitions for clients within the cultural sector, Moa now designs campaigns and creates content for social movements. She coordinated the Extinction Rebellion UK Design Group between 2020 and 2023 and has a Master’s degree in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art.

-

ERIK HARTIN is an activist-artist-researcher, currently finishing his PhD about art and action in the Anthropocene at the University of East Anglia.

Erik specialises in researching and designing systems and practices that support collective action. His work employs deep narrative research practices and experimental forms of practice-based research to create new knowledge about art, design and the natural world. He is a Tyndall research fellow and member of ClimateUEA.

In 2025, CLIONA SHEPHARD worked with the studio on social media coordination and video editing.
